Function and Role of Elders

THIS PROCESS IS NOT SET IN STONE (IT IS JUST AND EXAMPLE). IT WILL NEED TO BE DISCUSSED AND RATIFIED AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME (IF NEEDED) BY THE MEN’S MEETING BEFORE IT IS ADOPTED AS THE PROCESS THAT WILL BE USED.

As we embark to discover biblical spiritual men willing to serve our congregation, below is some information for you to prayerfully consider.  This is for members of the congregation.

1 Peter 5:1-5 So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that Is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those In your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Acts 14:23 And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.
1 Timothy 3:1- 16 The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he
desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife,
sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone cloes not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? …
Acts 20;17; 28-36 Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him …
James 5:14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
1 Timothy 5:17-19 Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle an ox when It treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer deserves his wages.” Do not admit a charge against an elder except on the evidence of two or three witnesses.
Titus 1:5-9 This Is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained Into order, and
appoint elders in every town as I directed you – If anyone Is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or Insubordination. For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled,upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give Instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it ….
Acts 11:30 And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul.
Ephesians 4:10-14 He who descended Is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,1’1 to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning,by craftiness in deceitful schemes
1 Timothy 4;14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you.
Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.
